4 Ways to Battle Bad Breath

If you are suffering from bad breath, you may be struggling to improve it. Some bad breath is caused by your oral hygiene routine, while in other cases it is from the medications you take or gum disease. Here are some different ways to battle your bad breath.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

One of the most important things to do when you have bad breath is to improve your oral hygiene regimen. If you have only been brushing twice a day, you might consider brushing after each major meal. If you have been flossing once a day, now is the time to start flossing twice a day. The food debris caught between your teeth just might be the culprit, as it accumulates, then over time starts to get a bad odour. In addition to brushing and flossing, you also want to clean your tongue every time you brush your teeth. Either get a tongue scraper or use the end of your toothbrush, which should have some ridges on it that help clean your tongue. This will get rid of a lot of bacteria causing bad breath.

Get a Professional Cleaning

You also need to see your dentist regularly, as no amount of oral hygiene at home will help get rid of all bacteria and plaque from your teeth, especially below the gumline. You need to have a professional cleaning performed by the dental hygienist to give you clean, sparkling teeth. Many people notice that their breath is considerably better after having a professional cleaning. Your dentist will also look for signs of infection, which might also be adding to the bad breath and need to be treated.

Have Your Gum Disease Treated

If you have periodontal disease, also called gum disease, it is likely causing issues with your teeth and gum health. This is an infection of your gums that can cause quite a bit of breath odour. Your dentist may send you to a periodontist if the gum disease is in one of the advanced stages. You might need to have a deep cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth.

Try Natural Remedies

There are also some natural remedies that help with bad breath. For example, after a meal, you can try chewing on some parsley, mint, or cilantro. This will help with oodurs related to what you are eating or drinking, such as fish, garlic, or coffee. If your bad breath is caused by halitosis, it can be remedied with fennel seeds or cloves.
